Why the name "Arura"?

In Tibetan images of the Medicine Buddha (Sangye Menla) the left hand typically holds a blooming arura or myrobalan plant.

Tibetan medicine recognizes three basic types of illness, the root causes of which are the conflicting emotions; passion, aggression, and ignorance. Myrobalan is the only herb in the Tibetan pharmacopoeia that can aid in healing each of these three types of diseases.

The type of Massage that I offer is a combination of Eastern and Western massage techniques using warm oils incorporating essential oils. Holistic Massage is one of the best remedies to help treat today's common physical problems such as backache, headache, knee, ankle and other joint problems, sciatica, repetitive strain injuries (RSI), trapped nerves, muscle spasms, stiffness, and premenstrual syndrome (PMS). It is also one of the most powerful treatments for emotional stress related disorders such as anxiety, depression, addictions, and psychosomatic (mind/body) conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) or ulcers.

Some benefits of massage are that it calms and soothes, gives the patient a feeling of well-being, improves blood and lymphatic circulation, relaxes mind and body and enables a ‘grounding’ of energy. It can help to relieve pain, balance the polarity of the body, and remove blockages from the energy pathways. It can also act preventatively, boosting energy, strengthening the immune system and balancing emotions.

During the treatment I use warm oils incorporating essential oils. Essential oils have powerful therapeutic properties, both in treating physical ailments and in calming emotional problems. Exploring the chemistry of essential oils gives some insight into why the oils are so powerful. All essential oils have a wide range of medicinal properties and can be used preventatively against many illnesses and ailments and, above all, to strengthen the immune system.

Thai Yoga Massage is designed to relax and open the body's natural energy flow. Unlike the scooping and continuous strokes of Western-style massage, Traditional Thai Massage uses acupressure points, muscle stretching and compression performed as a rhythmic movement of gentle rocking.

The massage is done on a soft but supportive Thai mat on the floor with the recipient comfortably dressed in light clothing. The yoga positions and stretching make it ideal both for sportspeople and yoga practitioners, whilst the energy line workout is especially beneficial for people recovering from an illness or for those who wish to get back into shape.

Thai Yoga Massage has a long history of therapeutic healing in Thailand, to where it was brought over 2000 years ago from India by Ayurvedic doctors and Buddhist monks. Much of what is known in Thailand about Thai Yoga Massage has been passed down orally over the centuries, from generation to generation, and from masters to students.

The theoretical foundation of Thai massage is based on the concept of energy lines running through the body. Ten of these lines are especially important in Thai massage. Massaging points on these lines makes it possible to treat certain diseases or to relieve pain. Thai Yoga Massage is considered one of the most beneficial treatments for conditions such as stiffness in the joints, migraines, digestive disorders, organ dysfunctions and emotional imbalance (which left untreated can lead to ailment).
